EDITOR`s WELCOME
Dear FIPLV members and colleagues around the world,
Welcome to the Autumn – Winter issue of the FIPLV newsletter. As the year draws to a close, this edition reflects both the breadth of activity across our member associations and a shared sense of belonging, commitment and aspirations for languages.
We open with a rich collection of reports and updates from across the globe. These include highlights from the 25th AFMLTA International Languages Conference, alongside news from CASLT, introducing the winners of the 2025 CASLT Awards. From Europe and beyond, readers will find contributions from IDV / AMPAL (Asociación Mexicana de Profesores de Alemán), ILEI (the International League of Esperanto Instructors), MANYE / HAALLT, reporting on the 30th Congress of Hungarian Applied Linguists, and NZALT, sharing exciting developments from New Zealand.
Particular attention is given to major international events in language education. Språklärarnas riksförbund reports on the International Conference of Teachers of German (IDT) 2025 in Lübeck, which brought together over 2,700 participants from more than 100 countries to engage with key themes such as multilingualism, diversity, motivation, and digital learning. We also include news from SUKOL, organisers of the FIPLV-NBR Conference 2025 in Helsinki, focusing on languages as mediators of culture and mutual understanding, with timely reflections on multilingualism and the role of AI.
This issue also pauses to recognise outstanding service to the profession. A special tribute is paid to Gail Spence ONZM, whose award of Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit honours a lifetime of dedication to language education at national and international level.
Alongside these reports, the issue reflects a year of steady progress within FIPLV itself, which saw strengthened cooperation among member associations and ongoing preparations for future initiatives, including major international events. As always, the newsletter stands as a testament to the collective energy, expertise and commitment of our global language teaching community.
We extend our sincere thanks to all contributors and member associations for their invaluable work, collaboration and commitment which drive the progress and impact of language education globally.
